در این تحقیق، به ­منظور ارزیابی ژنتیکی و اقتصادی برنامه انتخاب آزمون نتاج و انتخاب معمول گاومیش‌های خوزستان، تعداد 3000 گاومیش مولد با استفاده از برنامه R، شبیه­ سازی گردید. در هر یک از برنامه‌های آزمون نتاج از سطوح مختلف رکوردگیری شیر (100، 80، 50 و 20 درصد) و تلقیح مصنوعی (100، 80، 50 و 20 درصد) استفاده شد و در انتخاب معمول انتخاب بر اساس اطلاعات شجره گوساله نر و تولید مادر آن صورت گرفت. در شاخص انتخاب نیز، دو صفت تولید شیر و درصد چربی درنظر گرفته شد. برنامه‌های مورد مطالعه بر اساس پیشرفت ژنتیکی، تغییرات تولید، ارزش ژنوتیپی کل و میزان درآمد و هزینه مقایسه شدند. در بررسی برنامه‌های انتخاب اعمال­شده، مشاهده شد که با افزایش نسبت گله‌های تحت پوشش تلقیح مصنوعی، پیشرفت ژنتیکی و تغییرات ارزش ژنوتیپی کل برنامه انتخاب آزمون نتاج افزایش داشت. این افزایش برای هزینه و درآمد هر یک از برنامه‌های مذکور نیز مشاهده شد. علاوه بر تلقیح مصنوعی، سیستم رکوردگیری شیر نیز بر افزایش دو پارامتر هزینه و درآمد مؤثر بود. با این حال، هزینه‌های اضافی ناشی از به کارگیری سیستم رکوردگیری شیر و عملیات تلقیح مصنوعی، از طریق افزایش درآمد حاصل از عملکرد گاومیش‌های بهتر جبران شد. به­طورکلی، بر اساس تغییرات ارزش ژنوتیپی کل، پیشرفت ژنتیکی صفت تولید شیر و حداقل هزینه و حداکثر میزان درآمد، برنامه انتخاب آزمون نتاج با 20 درصد جمعیت تحت پوشش رکوردگیری و 100 درصد جمعیت تحت برنامه تلقیح مصنوعی برای گله‌های گاومیش‌، به عنوان برنامه مناسب آزمون نتاج انتخاب شد.
