یکی از عوامل مؤثر و تعیینکننده در استفاده مطلوب از نهادهها در واحدهای بهرهبرداری، اندازه واحد تولیدی است. با توجه به نقش مؤثر ظرفیت تولید شیر در میزان هزینه گاوداریها، تعیین اندازهای که در آن هزینه گاوداریها حداقل شود ضروری است. در مطالعه حاضر اندازه بهینه گله، ظرفیت بهینه تولید شیر در گاوداریهای تولیدکننده شیر استان مازندران مورد بررسی قرار گرفته است. بدین منظور اطلاعات 50 گاوداری صنعتی شیری در شهرستانهای ساری، بابل و قانمشهر جمع آوری شد. در این مطالعه برای براورد اندازه بهینه گله از الگوی دو مرحلهای داسون و هوبارد استفاده شد. نتایج این مطالعه بیانگر آن است که ظرفیت بهینه تولید شیر در شهرستانهای ساری، بابل و قائمشهر به ترتیب برابر 6/304059، 4/315532 و 6/281210 کیلوگرم میباشد که با توجه به عملکرد متوسط سالانه هر رأس گاو شیری اندازه بهینه گله در شهرستانهای مورد نظر، به ترتیب برابر 72، 72 و 68 رأس بدست آمد. براساس این یافتهها بهبود مقیاس تولید به منظور دستیابی به ظرفیت بهینه تولید پیشنهاد میشود.
